Hi all,

Just a reminder about my short talk at the SOCCA Chinese New Year Jacksonville event this year on Saturday, February 18th at City Hall at 1 pm.

Jacksonville Chinese New Year is a very special event, especially for the whole family It starts in the morning with a parade and lion dance down main street. Followed by lots of events, arts, history, demonstrations and activities through the day. It takes over the whole historic downtown!

Since 2008 (except last year), I’ve been at this event and given the talk about Chinese Astrology for the year – completely motivated by my personal interest to learn more about the subject, and to share it.  I talk about the background and perspective of the system for awhile, the year to come, and of course everyone enjoys hearing how the year might be for their personal  Chinese Animal year and so on.

The 2016 “Fire Monkey” year was one that many of us felt by the end of the year was not to our liking. To put it mildly. It was a year where a lot of trickery (and indeed, crap)  was able to get thrown around –  and indeed in the experience of most of us – it did!   I was inspired to research if this new “Fire Rooster” of 2017 (started January 28th) might just have a few clues about how to proceed after last year.

And indeed some sources point to a kind of natural antidote in what this Fowl year offers to put a stop to the Monkey shenanigans .  In terms of the personal, cultural, and what seems to be on a lot of people’s minds – the political.

What’s ‘in style’ in this Rooster year has just has a way of… pecking precisely. And calling out ‘authority’ to task. The energy becomes available to pick through the options and sort what is good, and discard what is not.  Precisely and analytically.

The available ‘qi’ of the year actually offers some hope. As there is this ‘roostery’ fire energy around for collectively beneficial action, and for sorting through the reckless and careless to peck out what’s right from what’s not. At the least there is energy around for stepping out with a brand new look, yeah! If enough of us do the sorting out work, and do that part with some clarity and precision, things could look very different than they did at the beginning of this year.  Doing this collectively can help the boat of society float. It’s the rooster’s call at the break of dawn.

Precise application of just enough force in a point-by-point manner to effect change – done gently it sounds a little like good acupuncture treatment!

OK- so now maybe now you don’t need to hear the talk!   🙂

Wishing you all health and happiness,

Ken
