Qi of the
Yin METAL RABBIT :::: XIN MAO
Year :: 2011/4709
To understand the system of the 12 Earthly Branches or Chinese Zodiac Animal Astrology we must study the images as a flow of a 12, 60 and 120 year cycle.
Astrology and geomancy are two premier subjects of Asia’s classical mantic arts. Their development in China over the last 2,500 years continues a tradition whose history is incalculable. Many methods of divination/calculation exist in that tradition some are planetary others are simply mathematically cyclical. The system used here and spoken about today is called the cyclical system of Celestial Stems (yin/yang and 5 elements) and Earthly Branches (12 animals). This system is used to count/designate the 60 and 120 cycle of hours, days, months and years for the traditional Chinese almanac.
Our lives are a synthesis of our character, fate and freedom, that is, we have a particular physique and a dance we must perform, but the music is not always playing – in other words, you can call in a request now and then (set the stage with your freedom). Some dancers and their dances are more or less awkward. What we are talking about today is the rhythm/melody produced by the Metal Rabbit year and how each of us (as Stem/Branch phenomena) will/can more or less dance to it.
Fate’s most bitter edge is the apparently “un-learnable” lesson – repeated inauspicious conduct. We have all probably said: “I can’t believe I did that again!” Freedom’s worthless edge is sloth. Squandering freedom is common.
Most of us spend most of our time in the vagaries in between. It is my sincerest hope that these annual presentations will help to resolve the bitter edges of your Fate and encourage you to use your Freedom to help others (a healthy gesture that arises naturally from Freedom).
FATE IS NOT ACTUALLY CREATED (HAS NO BEGINNING) BUT
IS THE PREDISPOSITION TO RECREATE AND SOLIDIFY KARMIC PATTERNS.
THE EVER-PRESENT OPTION/DISPOSITION TO OPENLY EXPRESS OUR TRUE NATURE IS FREEDOM.
TOGETHER FATE AND FREEDOM CONSTITUTE THE NATURALLY DYNAMIC DIMENSION WE ARE IN.
Sequence: Tiger (2010) to Rabbit (2011)
The Metal Tiger winter is characterized by a lurching and lunging qi. But winter quickly subdues the threatening, pugnacious and impulsive qi of the Metal Tiger and turns to support the emerging Rabbit. In Metal Rabbit year the qi softens and inspires introspection. Tiger qi transforms and, most importantly, becomes an inwardly directed Rabbit qi stream.
To understand the “qi profile” of the Rabbit, it is useful to look at the image of the Rabbit in Chinese astrology/culture. Remember that the Rabbit is only a paradigmatic image for the qi available this year.
RABBIT Key Word: INTUITION
Native Element for Rabbit: WOOD
Other Correspondences are the Constellations: Badger (3. Root [-]), Hare (4. Room [++]), Fox (5. Heart [-]) ::: 5am – 7am, 2th moon, apricot flower, crystal, pearls, east
IMAGE:
When their qi is sufficient Rabbits are: gentle, quiet, peace loving, intuitive, intelligent, aesthetic, domestic, social, supportive, loving and authoritative.
When their qi is depleted or afflicted they are: gossipy, violent, snobby, superficial, paranoid, greedy, scattered, vain, promiscuous, opportunistic, deceptive,, stubborn and lazy.
The Rabbit talked about in Chinese Astrology is well known to all Chinese peasants as the animal that “lives in the moon”. The lunar image represents the Rabbit’s strong need to escape the bright light of day – they hate confrontations of all types. Rabbits take charge of situations from the position of subordinate. Once safety and security are established in their lives they show themselves to be capable and successful managers and advisors. This aspect of the Rabbit is best represented by the image of the Great Teacher Confucius – born in a Rabbit year.
They are domestic. Inveterate collectors, they are likely to “feather their nest” with great care. Rabbits actually derive energy from objects and have a keen eye for what is precious and valuable.
The White (metal) Rabbit is also closely linked to Chinese Alchemy and all things secret and “esoteric”. The Rabbit that lives on the moon, in Chinese tradition, is perpetually synthesizing the Elixir of Immortality. This image of the Alchemist Rabbit is on the program’s cover.
Famous Rabbits: Albert Einstein, Frank Sinatra, Pope Benedict XVI, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, David Beckham, Chogyam Trungpa, Trotsky, Tiger Woods, Gongfu Zi (Confucius), Elisabeth Kubler Ross and Kabje Dodrupchen IV (Thubten Trinlé Palzangpo - Ming’s “root lama”)
FIVE TYPES OF RABBIT
The 60 zodiac animals of Chinese astrology are archetypes, that is, they represent the diversity of human characters while also referring to the cyclical transformations of qi that are Time itself. Though the most popular presentations are about the human character it is important to remember these archetypes also characterize the cycles of hours, days, months and years of the traditional North and Central Asian lunar calendar.
As archetypes they can be explained in terms of their socially relative qualities making up the complex of human society. They can also be seen as simply 12 splendid ornaments in a dream-like Universe. The boundaries between them are imagined.
Of the twelve main zodiac animals Rabbits offer insight from an active intuition and are great negotiators. Can you hear and accept the inner revelations of the Rabbit year?
52) YI MAO - WOOD RABBIT (1915, 1975) “Temple Rabbit”
WOOD is the native element of the Rabbit Earthly Branch. Wood Rabbits are shrewd, playful and determined characters. They enjoy partying and are sexually promiscuous. Though their fortunes are good they often squander their good fortune being frivolous (pathetic friends, sports, pop culture). They often escape the results of their misconduct, but not without strenuous manipulations. They have weak immunity and will always suffer from minor chronic blood disorders or infections.
4) DING MAO – FIRE RABBIT (1927, 1987, 2047) “Moon-Gazing Rabbit”
Fire rabbits are quiet, but stiff and regal. They think very little of the knowledge or teachings of others and have a high opinion of their own opinions and thoughts. They are painfully idealistic. Their lack of trust conflicts with their strong sexual appetite and this often leaves them isolated and lonely. They marry more than once. Despite repeated calamities in their lives, they have good fortune and will be comforted by wealth and position. Though strong, they often acquire unusual diseases - difficult to diagnose and treat. They are particularly susceptible to pernicious cold.
16) JI MAO - EARTH RABBIT (1939, 1999, 2059) “Emerging Rabbit”
Earth Rabbits are persuasive, resourceful and distrustful characters. Their own uneven fortune often makes them dishonest with and wary of even their friends/family. They obsess about security but do not find it. Their strong sexual appetite does not respect boundaries and they often divorce and/or seduce other people’s partners. An uneven marriage may last a long time. They enjoy the company of unconventional characters and those less fortunate than themselves. In midlife, they can establish material security, and stop obsessing and metamorphose. In old age they have a real potential to study (knowledge) and gain wisdom. They are prone to lung and skin ailments.
28) XIN MAO - METAL RABBIT (1951, 2011, 2071) “Rabbit in Burrow”
see below
40) GUI MAO - WATER RABBIT (1963, 2023, 2083) “Forest Rabbit”
Water Rabbits are skittish, intuitive and untrusting. They sleep very deeply (troubles appear and resolve in the night). They have a paranoid attitude towards others that is not the product of bad experience in this lifetime. They therefore cannot dedicate themselves to any particular relationship to society and drift through various career choices without success. Though they are good at business and frugal with their finances their fortunes wobble. They may have strong ideas regarding the maintenance of their health, but are uneven in applying them. A strong protector in the form of a partner or mentor, whom they trust, can reverse their wishy-washy fortunes. Most illnesses are caused by spirit possession.

Yin METAL RABBIT
(1951, 2011, 2071)
“Rabbit in Burrow”
Metal Rabbits are intelligent, quiet and humble characters. They are social, quick-witted and generous to those in need. They thrive on intimacy with a select inner-circle, often appearing aloof or distant to others. Safety is of great importance to them. Though their own fortune is often to stand behind powerful business, social and/or religious leaders. They enjoy spiritual matters, but struggle with their application. They do not have strong constitutions and are particularly susceptible to cold illnesses with pain symptoms. They often die from the effects of injury.
METAL RABBITs born in 1951 Steven Segal (film star and recognized incarnate lama), al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri, Sting, Phil Collins, Ben Cohen (Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream), designer Tommy Hilfiger (company sold for $10 billion), Charo (married Xavier Cugat (66) when she was 15 years old), R&B great Luther Vandross, John Boy Walton (Richard Thomas), actress Angelica Huston, Charlie’s Angel (Cheryl Ladd), comedian Robin Williams, NCIS guy (Mark Harmon), Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders), film-maker Pedro Almodovar, Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker from Star Wars), John Mellencamp
Basic conflict
Since the Celestial Stem (Xin: Metal) of the year has a negative relationship to the Rabbit Earthly Branch element (Wood) the year is generally inauspicious – contains both great potential for peace and a veiled sense of viciousness and paranoia.
Basic Advice
The secret to the qi of this particular year (stem/branch combination) is to intuitively withdraw in order to reinforce your inner security before making what can be the Rabbit’s genuine agreements with others.

.
Calm Introverted Reclusive (Ambitious)
Family/Home Introspection
Peace-loving/Safety (material $ paranoid) Diplomacy

Surprise could up-end everything – Test of Resilience (Pessimism) – Inward intensity
only one unpredictable situation after which only titanic effort may return all developments of the 2011 year back on track. So make sure you don't ask too much and don't expect too much from the year of the White Rabbit since 2011 year has something to show us and even the best intellect could hardly imagine what the 2011 year of the White Rabbit got in store for us.
World Politics
In the Metal Rabbit year autonomy, national and regional identity will continue to be important and at the root of all positive resolutions and continuing conflicts. China, US, India and the European Community will suffer from separatist movements. Many nations will increase defense spending and enact economic protectionist measures on imports. The UN and the WTO will need to deal with a number of old and new disputes.
Some, if not all, NATO countries will tire of the war in Afghanistan as al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups lose their enthusiasm for attacking the sovereign nations. The Middle East should also expect a period of relative calm – some introspection on all sides is surely needed.
Conversely, nations will also become more insular and increasingly lock down their borders to protect against the "other". However, 2011 will also see new art movements projecting a distinct national identity taking the world by storm. Shrewd and creative new business partnerships will also form to the benefit of all.
Metal Rabbit year is all about diplomacy. Rabbits do make (and keep) treaties. All nations will be called on to restate and reevaluate their values. Demagoguery will continue while progress is made “behind the scenes” by lesser officials, businessmen and religious leaders.
On the dark side Rabbits are often paranoid and if any real or imagined betrayals surface this year among the armed nations an outbreak of disorder and violence of an immeasurable scale is possible. The power of avoiding this sort of mayhem is in our hands (gan ying) … please, do your best to work cooperatively with others and express compassion not hopelessness!
NATIONAL FORECASTS
U.S.A is (1776) is a Fire Monkey. A Fire Monkey nation is innovative, aggressive and skilled in business. The US will continue to decline in power and prestige for the next three years. The clumsy and outdated government will not wake up. It will be left alone by its allies on battlefields it created and criticized mercilessly by it Press.
P. R. China is (1949) an Earth Ox. An Earth Ox nation is strong, fearless but also clumsy, confident and determined. China’s growth will slow down some. Regionalism and ethnic identity (which the Central government sees as nit-picking) will continue to rock (but no capsize) China’s political boat. PRC would be wise to make further political compromises along its Western frontier (Tibetan and Uighur territories).
Israel (1948) is an Earth Rat. An Earth Rat nation is high-strung, very self-conscious and often fearful. The issue of Palestinian autonomy will be crucial. Domestic unity will be further compromised and no new leadership found.
India is (1947) a Fire Pig. India has the option of taking a far more important leadership role among nations in 2011. Its financial and cultural resources will flourish and its history of negotiation will be in demand. It will easily create new alliances and embrace its bright future.
Business/Finance
Although the world economy will technically be out of recession, many countries will still be marred in debt and subject to high taxation. Unrest will grow and governments will be forced to place their domestic agendas above the demands of international co-operation. This will place great strain upon the European Community, the Russian Federation, the Chinese Communist Party and the economic co-operation between Canada, the USA and Mexico.
In 2011 housing markets in the West will fall back to their long term average and a new realism amongst both buyers and sellers will lead to a propitious year for Real Estate sales – volume will increase. Interest in the Art world will increase markedly. Art and handcrafted objects will sell well.
Romance/Relationship/Family
The Chinese zodiac Rabbit is a strongly domestic and family oriented sign. Rabbit years are usually full of big weddings and inspiring family reunions. The Metal Rabbit is however a bit aloof and will put a rather serious restraint on the Rabbit’s notion of “free love”. Choosing partners in 2011 will be with an eye to security. Rabbits can be quite romantic and sexual but find it easy to save their affections for the partner with the most money. So courtship in 2011 should involve financial planning: mortgages, new or shared housing, car payments and college costs for the kids.
Like all Rabbits, Metal Rabbits love family and their “inner” social circle but they are extremely sensitive to betrayal, so Metal Rabbit year can also inspire divorce (and vigorous fights for custody and financial settlements). People in relationships that feel betrayed or even just under stress may snap and cut people out of their lives with ruthless force.
If you are already married think about presents for your partner. If you are courting make some serious financial plans. If you are just cruising for sex get a flashy wrist watch or fancy car – Rabbits like things that sparkle.
Health
The Chinese zodiac Rabbit represents an aspect of the nervous system that is tied to intuition. In matters of health 2011 will be largely unscientific. Though “magic pill” pharmaceuticals will sell well, surgeries will frighten people. 2011 will make us all a bit sensitive and empower the relationship between health and our innermost thoughts. Those with weak immunity will feel naked to infection. Chronic disorders and even a passing case of influenza can be exacerbated by worry or morbidly low self-esteem. Snake oil will sell well, and even help some people. Dreams will offer cures.
On the bright side intuitive healers, shaman and shrinks will have a heyday. Treatments thought to be “unscientific” will be able to work wonders. Psychotherapy will really work. Laughing will shrink tumors … you get what I am saying. Healing will come from the inside out but must be coaxed my methods that fully engage the imagination and intuition.
There is a chance that the health practices once linked to contemplative traditions (yoga, qigong) will reunite. Yoga for weight loss will accidentally raise the consciousness of the chubby yogini. 2011 is a good year to begin or renew the practice of yoga, qigong or taiji.
Spiritual Matters
The Metal Rabbit is an alchemist. This means that synthesis and refinement will characterize all spiritual development in 2011. Withdrawal (retreat) will be fruitful. Not just respiration (yoga, qigong) but the digestion can be enlisted as a spiritual practice. Vegetarianism, macrobiotics and even modest fasting can be revelatory. Your appetite can be a kind of wisdom.
Alchemy can also be applied to eclecticism. Synthesis can make your ragtag collection of practices work like a new orthodoxy. Last year’s solo path remains solo but now with a more refined “customized” flavor. Spend time alone; practice on your own and find out what it is that you really want to spiritually accomplish. Rather than go back to India to see the guru (to hear teachings you have already heard); do the practice he/she told you to do and let go of your dependency. Don’t be a “follower”; be a practitioner!
The qi “goes in” in 2011. This means religion will become less of an issue for social and political identity. Religion may lose its combat strategy altogether in 2011. The social-political leaders who have been masquerading as religious figures will be “outed”. Their followers will shift and diminish. There will be scandals, gossip and assassinations in their number.
Basic Directives
Most of us are not very intuitive. Intuition for most of us is something qi deficient people have. But the fact is, we are somewhat intuitive and this year that intuition can be trusted and cultivated. Intuition is not the result of enlightenment it is a sensitivity that comes from the loose wiring that runs between self and others. Looked at clearly it is a common proof for our true interconnectedness.
Let your qi sink in and down and then watch it gently rise and express itself in motion. Be a bit reluctant and things should go well.

This comparison gives a rough approximation of the auspices for each sign in the year of the Metal RABBIT. (A more personal and specific reading is found in the progressions of stars in your Polestar natal chart). Remember that the lunar year begins on the 3rd of February 2011.
KEY: (0) = not particularly good/bad :: (+) = good auspices in some ways :: (++) the best auspices all around :: (-) = not too bad if you have modest worldly ambitions :: (- -) = bad auspices all around
RAT (-)
1948, 1960, 1972,1984, 1996, 2008 Thorough/Fragmented
If Tiger year (2010) wasn’t rough enough 2011 promises to be even more stressful. If planning has been good while resources shifted last year this year can be “no worries”. Don’t expect much in terms of progress and you will be able to hang on to what you’ve got.
Wood Rat born 1984 “Rat on the Rooftop”
You may be tired of the losses but one more year of loss and you will be down to the solid ground on which to build a bright, new future.
Fire Rat born 1936 and 1996 “Field Rat”
2011 is about holding on to what you have. Don’t strain yourself with attempts to expand – sit and wait, some progress is coming in 2012. Your Immunity is not strong.
Earth Rat born 1948 and 2008 “Granary Rat”
Things should be stable and flourish according to your work momentum – this year’s success is owed you, but do not lean to hard on friends or clients.
Metal Rat born 1960 “ Rafter Raft”
Though the year starts out rough or slow, your professional life may flourish by summer. Modesty will bring success. Avoid exhaustion and radical medical treatments.
Water Rat born 1972 “Mountain Rat”
You may recover a long-lost calm. Consider travel and/or retreat this summer. The year will pass quietly and quickly for you.
OX (0)
1949, 1961, 1973,1985, 1997, 2009 Reliable/Insensitive
2011 will be a year of modest bewilderment for those born in Ox years. The whole inwardly directed qi phenomenon of the Rabbit year does not inspire your, not too lively, imagination. Your strength will seem misplaced. Get some help with your self-sabotaging tendencies. Expect the drudgery you are often mired in to lighten up some by July.
Wood Ox born 1925 and 1985 “Ox an Sea”
You can miss the inhibitions of this less favorable year by re-educating yourself or by getting involved with an artistic project. Your innermost values may be challenged and reconfigured.
Fire Ox born 1937 “Ox at the Lake”
Your already complex relationships will get seriously tangled up this year. Obstructions will appear to create doubt in your abilities. Retirement and withdrawal are recommended. It is time to learn about retreat.
Earth Ox born 1949 “Penned Ox”
Keep on keeping on is what you are all about so, keep on keeping on. By the way, you may have some shifts at work by summer. Any education you acquire this year will be applicable for life. Beware depression and try and keep a big picture.
Metal Ox born in 1961 “Traveling Ox”
Lurching this way and that will chafe your neck. Indecision dis-empowers you this year. To avoid harm, you should stick with the best of your established circumstances. Be very careful with your health, you are not as strong as you think.
Water Ox born in 1973 “Field Ox”
Make few changes in your circumstances and things go well. You will be tempted to try the new but it is not recommended. Be financially conservative as well. Rest when tired.
TIGER (+)
1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 Daring/Selfish
2011 is a year of coasting for Tigers. The momentum of 2010 will continue to enhance your career, increase your prestige and broaden your network of resources. New opportunities however will put a strain on your family ties and intimate relationships, if you don’t keep an eye on your partner something unexpected may occur.
Wood Tiger in 1974 “Stillness Tiger”
You are double WOOD. You are at a crossroads in career and romance. There really isn’t much to Do or Hunt – it is more about choice and commitment. What you really want is not far off – stop looking for something “new”.
Fire Tiger born in 1986 “Forest Tiger”
Everything in 2011 hinges on “discretion”, so, as always; it is up to you how things go. If you can curb the impulses with a bit of discipline or education, hunting will go well.
Earth Tiger born 1938, 1998 “Mountain Tiger”
More growth, success and attention are yours in 2011. Take some time out to be particularly grateful to your subordinates. Return the adoration.
Metal Tiger born 1950 “Descending Tiger”
2011 continues the growth started in 2010. Everything on the career front will flourish but you will be called to protect and strengthen family ties. If you got through 2010 without wounds you will prosper – if not, you will need to pay much attention to your health.
Water Tiger born 1962 “Roaming Tiger”
The year offers a great opportunity abroad but while you are away turmoil will break out at home. Your fury may help sort out some of this but use fury with precision. In 2011 there is an opportunity to refine your strength away from the use of force.
RABBIT (++)
1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011 Intuitive/Muddled
2011 is a great year for Rabbits. The qi that shapes the environment of the year also shapes your basic nature. You fit in. As a result it is a year that you may wish to reinvent yourself: new job, new address and new partner. Everything is possible; even if you have no interest in shaking things up. Because everything is possible you need to be cautious if you do NOT want things to change.
Wood Rabbit born 1975 ”Temple Rabbit”
Your nearly impossible standards puff up in 2011 – nobody seems competent or supportive enough. A hard look in the mirror will be a revelation – you might see someone you have never seen (or wanted to see) before. Spiritual maturation is absolutely unavoidable. Your inner life is more important to you than you want to admit! This awkwardness is your Path – maybe until you enter the ashram or monastery. Intentional solitude can be a successful choice for you. Your health will be restored.
Fire Rabbit born 1927, 1987 “Moon-Gazing Rabbit”
2011 will show you a new face in the mirror. It may be time to stop checking everyone else’s worthiness and do some work on your own. Try and be less theoretical – get involved in charity or ecology work. Act on your dreams.
Earth Rabbit born 1939, 1999 “Emerging Rabbit”
Beware misappropriating the new force you will acquire in 2011. If resentment and jealousy get the better of you the year will go by without benefit. You are particularly at risk for compulsive behavior and injury in Spring of 2011. Listen to your inner circle of good friends – they will remind you of your generous side. If someone has betrayed you, do not act rashly.
Metal Rabbit born 1951 “Rabbit in the Hole”
In 2011 you have a chance to become really who you are. An atmosphere of welcome will surround you. You officially become a worthy advisor – an elder. At the same time you become strangely fashionable, gaining a sense that you “fit in” in ways you never noticed. Opportunities for generosity will appear and possible shape the rest of your life. You must keep an eye on your health.
Having said that, I must add: Metal Rabbits are more tied to the circumstances of the year than any other sign, that is, your life will mirror the way the world goes. If 2011 is calm and prosperous; you will be calm and prosperous. If 2011 hits a snag and gets totally bent outa shape – you will too. Watch the headlines for your own fate. This is called the gan ying principle.
Water Rabbit born 1963 “Forest Rabbit”
What you do this year with the widening resources of 2011 will shape the rest of your life. You may reinvent yourself, travel abroad and/or dare to become who you really are. All eyes will be on you and a supportive entourage may form – do not fritter it away with superficiality.
DRAGON (+)
1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 Powerful/Aloof
Your skill at transformation can be called upon this year (and next) to an exalted degree. 2011 will liberate you from even the self-undermining sabotage you use to feel like one of us. The risks would be too high for most of us, but not for you. Reinvent yourself yet again and show us all how alchemy is done.
Wood Dragon born 1964 “Laughing Dragon”
Feel the wobble of Spring 2011 qi and don’t push it. Your health may collapse in Spring, be careful. By the 5th moon you will be free to create and I mean create. Even modesty will get you a growing sphere of influence and an expanding list of resources. Showing off a little is okay.
Fire Dragon born 1976 “Sky Dragon”
For you, 2011 is good year to escape the retribution that has been rolling behind you for some time. Lay low. Your impulsiveness over the last 15 years has limited your powers and inspired some routines and disciplines that should be practiced and nourished this year. Find a mentor. Be particularly cautious traveling, using power tools and electrical devises. You are at risk for physical accidents and depression.
Earth Dragon born 1928, 1988 “Yielding Dragon”
You are “fearless leader” says Boris to Natasha. In 2011 Older Earth Dragons can enjoy a peaceful retirement while the up-and-coming Earth Dragons will begin to see through the haze of the last few years. See if you can draw your qi back from examining others and let it come to rest in your own heart – your basic goodness. Consult the wise. Most important decisions should just be postponed to 2012 when things are more likely to naturally flourish.
Metal Dragon born 1940, 2000 “Dragon’s Fury”
2011 will be an ”I did it my Way” year – so, ok, tell me something I don’t know (LOL). Metal Dragons (like Metal Rabbits) are more tied to the circumstances of the year than other Dragons, that is, your life will mirror the way the world goes. If 2011 is calm and prosperous; you will be calm and prosperous. If 2011 hits a snag and get totally bent outa shape – you will too.
Water Dragon born 1952 “Rain Dragon”
2012 will be the Water Dragon year. While waiting for your “time to come”, you will have a chance to alchemically transform yourself in 2011. You live in your own world far more than any other sign and make it seem like one we all want (or don’t want). You have the chance to become (or continue to be) a true and great leader in a form we have never seen before. Your entire personal history can be deleted and fresh, deep insights fill the gap. If not for yourself, do it for us. If not on your own, find a mentor.
SNAKE (-)
1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013 Mystical/Weak
2011 will test Snakes. Your never-ending (yet discreet) battle against the mundane will seem somewhat empowered this year. The Rabbit’s intuition is almost mystical enough for you, but it will let you down. Keep an eye on those stubborn “helpers” who may, in fact, be obstructing your real life goals. It may be useful to think you really have enemies this year – and then figure out how you have been collaborating with them. You have many closets to come out of. Don’t be toyed with! Work on regaining your energy – you are exhausted.
Wood Snake born 1964 “Emerging Snake”
A decade of compromises has taken a heavy toll – you are on the verge of collapse. Start plotting a Vegas scale magical disappearance. Wait on financial matters until 2012 but make them part of the plan. Have a 2012-2013 strategy that puts you back in charge of your own destiny. Do some artwork. After July plan a vacation trip alone – you know where your power-spots are.
Fire Snake born 1977 “Fish Pond Snake”
Only the most radical of decisions can redirect your energy away from mishap and betrayal this year. Over-reacting to the setbacks that appear in Spring could turn the year into a nightmare. Discretion itself may wind up betraying you and you will be caught between a rock and a hard place. At best avoidance will keep to moving forward one more year.
Earth Snake born 1929, 1989 “Golden Snake”
You may be surprised to discover the message people have been getting from your silence. Focus on career; it may open up despite unevenness at home. When asked to state what you really mean or feel you may stammer and sputter and dig yourself into a pit. Earth Snakes at school will be bewildered.
Metal Snake born 1941, 2001 “Hibernating Snake”
2011 will work if you have someone to hide behind. Refer people elsewhere even when they speak to you directly – you know how to do this very well. “Honey (Mom, boss, buddy), tell them how I feel about that,” is one of your most charming characteristics. It will serve you very well this year. Sub-contract or out-source the year 2011.
Water Snake born 1953 “Hidden Snake”
Your 60-year cycle is 2 years away. Keep your head down until then. Do not get involved in lawsuits or arguments with family. Organize your last will and testament. I do not predict an early death; I just recommend some long-term planning. Early retirement is a VERY good idea.
HORSE (0)
1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 Capable/Dull
The project-oriented and worldly Horse is a bit out of step in 2011. Expecting the annual qi to support your forward progress in worldly projects will bring on big disappointment. Pushing it (running on empty) can seriously damage your health (especially related to injuries). So unless you want to win the First Prize in the Three-Legged Horse Race of 2013 – back down, postpone and abandon your excessive ambitions. Some good advice is available from family and close friends – use it. The year is not afflicted for Horses but …
Wood Horse born 1954 (2014) “Cloud Horse”
Work should be abundant as well as the compulsion to be too busy in 2011. Try to choose wisely and avoid the overwork that could put your health at risk. Choose projects that have long-lasting rewards. Glamorous get-rich-quick projects are likely to blow up in your face. Extra caution around tools (and lovers) is wise.
Fire Horse born 1966 “Galloping Horse”
Your reckless bent puts you are considerable risk (loss, injury) in 2011. Patience, focal awareness, postponement and staying with what has proven to be the best will be your safety net. Your over-simplification of things will be thought of as incredibly stupid and insensitive this year.
Earth Horse born 1978 “Corralled Horse”
In 2011 an array of many opportunities will appear but their number and complexity will inspire bewilderment. Don’t stress out trying to decide – postpone! It would be a great year to enter a new self-health discipline (diet, exercise and/or hobby). Plant a garden. Avoid life’s big decisions.
Metal Horse born 1930, 1990 “Horse in a Stall”
Work on projects that you started over the last few years. Your ability to conclude them may be improved. Distractedness is particularly dangerous this year. You have a great chance to learn Zen and the Art of Daily Life. Be focused but not self-conscious or paranoid.
Water Horse born 1942, 2002 “War Horse”
Your unstoppable quality is a liability this year. Step away from the controls and your relationships flourish. You are in for some uncomfortable losses if you do not slow down. A backlog of unfinished business and unclear agreements could suddenly fall on you.
GOAT(+)
1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 Idealistic/Morbid
MONKEY (+/-)
1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004 Dynamic/Unstable
In 2011 Monkeys will have little to be afraid of and not much will arise that requires their adept escapes. With no negative challenge the Monkey’s energy turns to adventure. It is a great year for education, travel and career changes as well as solid investments and buying and selling property. You may get your heart broke but someone will be there to mend it. At the end of the year you will be little ragged but your gun (emptied by the last 4-5 years) will be loaded for a new round of adventure.
Wood Monkey born 1944 “Climbing Monkey”
Apply your aptitude for improvisation at work and in relationships. With fearlessness modifying your trickiness you can benefit yourself and those around you. Spend some time alone and quiet and let bygones be bygones. A grudge could ruin the whole year.
Fire Monkey born 1956 “Mountain Monkey”
You are “on” this year. Go ahead with some of your old “kooky” ideas – their time has come. Reinvent yourself in 2011 and let it sort out for the next 4 years – have a plan and make it work. You’re old enough now to ask for a little help as well – you will be surprised how teamwork may be a good idea.
Earth Monkey born 1968 “Solitary Monkey”
You will be called on to perform some of your escape magic in Spring of 2011. It is a chance to see just how good you are at pulling a Rabbit out of your hat”. The 2011 set of tribulations will hone your character and leave you with new skills by winter. It is a year of adversity AND transformation of adversity. Illness and recovery will mark the year.
Metal Monkey born 1980 (1920) “Silver Fruit Monkey”
2011 is a year of accounts receivable for you. Though adversity may visit you it will be mitigated or obstructed by friends. Hang with your posse and do not take risks and 2011 will reveal new karmic roots with friends/family. Satori is available.
Water Monkey born 1932 (1992) “Elegant Monkey”
2011 will demand some thinking on your feet (natural to you). Adversity will be coming at you from all sides requiring all of your Houdini magic. Because you are Grand Master of Houdini magic – all goes well. You know you have been bored and (in a way) asking for it. See if you can make it to winter without a scratch!
ROOSTER (--)
1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 Intelligent/Proud
2011 is a bad fit for Roosters. Their certainty, straight-forwardness and pugilism is definitely out of step with the discrete Rabbit. They are the diametric of the Rabbit. As 2011 is an afflicted year it is likely to bring on changes that come fast and unexpectedly – the discomfort, in the case of the Rooster, is directly related to their pride. Less pride, less pain, it’s that simple. Struggling to “save face” or win the arguments will invoke disaster. Stress can easily undermine your health.
Wood Roster born 1945 (2005) “Crowing Rooster”
In the first half of the 2011 will be a roller-coaster ride without a net. Less or no crowing at all might help. No high-risk behavior, no challenging your friends/family and you can spend the second half the year trying to smooth your feathers like nothing happened.
Fire Rooster born 1957 “Single Rooster”
Your opinions are so strong you think they are facts. You may survive 2011 by opening your mind and listening to others. In fact, it may be that someone else will have to rescue you. You respect very few people but choose one and stick with them for 2011 – be a follower and you will survive.
Earth Rooster born 1969 “Rooster at Dawn”
You have a chance to make some use of 2011, especially the first half, if you use a bit of modesty and continue what has worked in the past few years. Work may go well but domestic strife may unseat you. Compromise is survival. Use that short list of trusted advisors and follow their advice.
Metal Rooster born 1981 (1921) “Caged Rooster”
You will likely be hallucinating in 2011. Most of what you see will not be what everyone else sees. Your usual eloquence will sound tongue-tied and your careful demeanor will seem disheveled to others. You will wonder: “is it me, or is it them?” It’s you and them – totally out of sync. Lay low and make no changes. The losses will be greater if you struggle to stop them.
Water Rooster born 1933 (1993) “Nested Rooster”
Though your cleverness may misfire in 2011 you will not lose all your skill. Turn inward and things will go smoothly. Fighting is out of the question. Pride will be gone or unformed and that is the key to your survival.
DOG (+)
1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 Loyal/Belligerent
In 2011 Dogs will have the urge to chase the Rabbit (overwork) but that is the only warning. This year can be used for solidifying relationships, advancing career and making long-term plans. 2011 offers power through the curbing of your instincts to lurch ahead. Lap dogs (not pit bulls) will get all the benefit this year. You know how to relax … so…. do it. Let the good times roll (continue).
Wood Dog born 1934/1994 “Gate Dog”
A lot of loose ends will tie together and give you a sound beating – you peed on the rug! This will open a new perspective on the last decade. The old struggles will now seem worthless. There is a chance to deepen roots with friends and family and recalibrate your skills as a protector. It’s a year characterized by retribution and previous causes (karma).
Fire Dog born 1946/2006 “Guard Dog”
Some of the plans you have made over the last few years will backfire because other people will let you down. Those you try to protect will undermine your willingness to help. You will be invited to redirect your attention to new projects and people and this will be awkward and challenging (your dead ancestors are speaking to you). If you are an old Fire dog you can and will learn new tricks. The young ones (like wolf cubs) will more easily prosper. There will be a howling at the moon.
Earth Dog born 1958 “Mountain Dog”
Carrying forward plans and courses of action already started will succeed. There may be some flack from jealous cohorts. In some sense you are close to the peak of the Mountain (fulfilling your aspirations) but also on shaky ground. Try to get a broad perspective and learn from others. It’s a good year to shake off any chronic illnesses that have been ignored or over-looked.
Metal Dog born 1970 “Temple Dog”
You have been carrying a strange burden since childhood and 2011 is a good opportunity to leave it behind for good. Let ghosts resolve and bygones be bygones and you will become stronger than you thought possible by the end of 2011. This new freedom is good and will cut off your dependency on some close others. A little time alone would do you some good.
Water Dog born 1982 “Family Dog”
2011 is about lurching and lunging. It will take all your discipline to smooth out the uneven flow. Your enthusiasm for a good Rabbit chase will undermine the basic opportunities available in 2011. Exhausted by summer and stupefied by Fall you may have wasted the basic goodness if you do not get with the program (self-discipline). Time alone would be full of revelation. Sticking with what has always worked and subordinating to the wise helps smooth the uneven qi.
PIG (+/-)
1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 Selfless/Indulgent
The flexibility of the Pig can easily adapt to the Metal Rabbit qi of 2011. Your casual way of being around people may cause you to miss opportunities, so tighten up the network and make use of the insights you have garnered lately. You can do what you have dreamed about. Intimate relationships could end up very rough (jealousy and confrontation) because you have been too generous (weak) – it can go either way (back to solitude or deepening love). The soft suggestions of Metal Rabbit contain life-changing possibilities – keep your eyes open and ear to the key hole secrets will open up.
Wood Pig born 1935 (1995) “Traveling Pig”
You are set up well to take advantage of the Metal Rabbit year. You can reinvent yourself, begin new and well-received art projects and make a new start. You can also easily rest on your laurels but your reputation will be challenged if you do. New Wood Pigs (1995) are late bloomers, but the year presents no obstacles.
Fire Pig born 1947 “Mountain Pig”
If you have learned to handle your basic aggression and have a plan things should go very smoothly in 2011. The Rabbit year asks you to contemplate no matter how noisy the room gets. Continuing on the path of the last few years, without distraction, will bring favorable results.
Earth Pig born 1959 “Temple Pig”
You need a retrospective plan, tried-and-true methods and the continued support of others to enjoy 2011. Don’t let your appetite for the “new” destroy what you already have. Stay close to home. There is a gold mine waiting in your self-reflection and a demon waiting in your aggressive patterns – you choose! Do not act as if you are immortal.
Metal Pig born 1971 “Garden Pig”
The uneven outcomes of the last few years can get better (smoother) or much worse – it is up to you. Feeling sorry for yourself, blaming, complaining and being aggressive have created a mess that needs cleaning up – self-reflection is the key. Compromise and negotiate if you do not want to dig yourself deeper into the dodo. Up to you!
Water Pig born 1983 “Forest Pig”
You can rely on your circle of friends and family to see you through 2011. Cultivate your gentleness and generosity and your posse will surround you with support. Listen to your heart and hang with the people who are on the same wave-length. Home, romance and work can all be sweetened by previous good causes.
